Sometimes a marriage doesn't need a major overhaul — it needs a reset. Seven days. Seven intentional actions. Each one small enough to do today, significant enough to shift the atmosphere of your home. Work through these together, or begin alone and invite your spouse to join you.
Day 1
The Undivided Hour
Set aside one hour this evening with no screens, no agenda, and no children if possible. Sit together. Talk about anything except logistics. Ask your spouse: "What's something you've been thinking about lately that you haven't told me?"
"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
Day 2
The Appreciation Letter
Write your spouse a handwritten note — not a text, not an email — listing five specific things you appreciate about them. Not general things ("you're kind") but specific ones ("the way you checked on me when I was stressed last Tuesday"). Leave it somewhere they will find it.
"Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification." — Romans 15:2 (KJV)
Day 3
The Prayer of One Sentence
Pray together before bed tonight. It does not need to be long. One sentence each is enough: "Lord, thank you for my spouse. Protect our marriage. Help us love each other well." If this feels awkward, that is normal. Do it anyway.
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." — Matthew 18:20 (KJV)
Day 4
The Listening Conversation
Ask your spouse one of these questions and listen — truly listen — without interrupting, advising, or defending: "What is one thing I do that makes you feel most loved?" or "What is one thing I could do differently that would make a real difference to you?"
"Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak." — James 1:19 (KJV)
Day 5
The Shared Memory
Look through old photos together — from your early relationship, your wedding, a favourite trip. Reminisce. Laugh. Remind yourselves of who you were when you chose each other, and why. Let that memory speak to the present.
"I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals." — Jeremiah 2:2 (KJV)
Day 6
The Apology You Owe
Think of one thing — recent or long-standing — that you owe your spouse an apology for. Not a vague "I'm sorry if I hurt you" but a specific, named apology: "I'm sorry for [specific thing]. I know it affected you by [impact]. I am committed to doing better." Say it today.
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed." — James 5:16 (KJV)
Day 7
The Covenant Renewal
Sit together and each answer this question: "What is one thing I want to commit to doing differently in our marriage going forward?" Write it down. Pray over it together. This is not a resolution — it is a covenant. Treat it as one.
"Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." — Matthew 19:6 (KJV)
Seven days is a beginning, not a destination. If this reset has opened something in your marriage — a conversation, a realisation, a desire for more — that is the Spirit at work. Don't let it close. Keep going.
